We read from Psalm 111:1-3 & 9 and I read a few notes from the ESV study Bible. We did this in the middle of singing Only a Holy God to focus our Hearts on who God is.
1 Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2 Great are the works of the Lord,
studied by all who delight in them.
3 Full of splendor and majesty is his work,
and his righteousness endures forever.
9 He sent redemption to his people;
he has commanded his covenant forever.
Holy and awesome is his name!
From the ESV Study Bible
This is a hymn of praise, celebrating the great works that the Lord has done for his people
in calling them to be his, in caring for them, and in protecting them.
Exhortation for the church
When we celebrate God’s great works we always stop to Praise God for who He is. We don’t just take him for granted by only looking at what He has done.
Verse 9 says “He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name.”
Holy and awesome or awe-inspiring is his name.
So we proclaim that now. This is our Holy God. There is no one or nothing like Him. As His people we humbly come before Him and boldly proclaim HIS NAME as Holy.
So take a moment to talk to God. Praise Him for who He is and what He has done. Think of how He has saved you from your sin, from the ways of this world, and from yourself. Let that fill your heart with joy and let that joy pour fourth in Praise and Adoration!
