Worship At Journey The Way
We Worship God for Who He Is and What He Has done.
Worship is responding to God for what He has done, and simply praising Him for who He is. He is the only one worthy of our praise, and He is the reason we are able or even desire to worship. 1 John 4:19, Psalm 29:2 and Hebrews 1:3 help in understanding this.
Worship is Corporate
Coming together to worship is part of what the church is all about. In this letter from Paul to the church in Colossae we learn that corporate worship is how we let God’s word dwell in us as a church.
Colossians 3:16-17
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
A couple of psalms that point us to worshipping God together are Psalm 95:6 and Psalm 66:1-2.
Worship Is All of Life
While worship is a big part of what we do when we gather together as a church, worship goes beyond the walls of church into everyday life. We can look at passages from Jesus as well as Paul to learn about this.
In Mark 8:34 Jesus calls his disciples to deny themselves and take up their cross. This is an image of choosing not to serve ourselves and choosing to serve and worship Jesus only.
In Romans 12:1 Paul urges his brothers to present their bodies “…as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God…” and that was to be their spiritual act of worship.
I am very happy that I can visit here, and read the sermons and follow along in my Bible. It is a great way for me to add to the worship service that I attend in the city that I live.
